Psychological Safety must be a critical component of a company’s culture in order to achieve High-Performance
Psychological Safety is not about being nice or polite. It is about having candid and direct conversations without fear of reprisal.
Black Diamond Leadership’s founder, Robert S. Grossman is one of eighteen coaches and consultants in North America certified by the Fearless Organization as a psychological safety coach and consultant.
We firmly believe the road to High-Performance Teams begins with psychologically safe employees.
Why Is Psychological Safety So Important Today?
We live is a VUCA World (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. In 2017, Gallup published the results of an exhaustive study of the American workplace. They found only 3 in 10 employees strongly agree with the statement that their opinions count at work.
Psychological Safety is important because it is the biggest predictor of team effectiveness in the face of change. During their team effectiveness project called Aristotle, Good studied 180 teams and concluded it is not enough to just have “A” players. They found psychological safety to be the #1 predictor of team effectiveness.
The first step is to measure the psychological safety of a team. We do this by using a simple yet extremely powerful assessment consisting of only seven questions developed and tested by Amy Edmonson, Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management, Harvard Business School and author of the Fearless Organization.
Based on the results of the assessment, we will provide solutions such as coaching and workshops. We will administer the assessment again in the middle and at the end of the program to demonstrate success.
Gallup projected if a company moves the ratio from 3 in 10 to 6 in 10 employees, the company will realize the following improvements:
Reduction in Turnover
Reduction of Safety Incidents
